Happy birthday to the best mom I ever had.
Thanks for always emailing me, you are my number one supporter and thanks for all you do. I know you are busy with work and the family and the house and your calling and all, but I look forward to reading your email every week.
I have tons of memories of all the things you've done for me, and I know there are many more that I don't remember. The thing I want to thank you the most for though, is for who I am today, and who I am becoming, because it's totally because of you!
When people compliment me for my manners, or washing the dishes, playing the piano, doing the right things, I can always tell them, "It's because of my mom!" haha. I remember that washing the dishes was one of the few things I argued about with you. Now I'm always washing my dishes and wondering "why in the world the rest of you don't wash your own dishes!!!" haha.
I hope that some day I can have a family that's as awesome as the one you and dad have raised.
Thanks for helping be who I am, and preparing me and teaching me what I need to know to become who I want to be!

You guys rock!
So this week I got to watch the lidership council. I feel pretty bad for Elder de Jesus, He's taking care of two areas, and being zone leader alone. He's stuck in trio until the missionary from argentina gets here and I go to Rio Verde to help him out.
I'm super excited two work with him, but I'm also super excited working here!!! FINALLY we're getting things going here, everybody's baptizing this month and we've got two more baptismal dates for the 22nd! Member Referrals!! and our last baptism this saturday was a member Referral also!!!
We baptized Jhonny and Luciana, they are golden. When Jhonny was baptized he gave me a hug, we walked to the bathroom and he said "Now... I'm Mormon!!!" hahaha.
Other crazy things that happened. We got the wrong bus getting back from Goiania and we decided to sleep in my house since it was closer. We were super tired and carrying all the packages for the other missionaries in the zone. I didn't have a key, so we visited our neighbor, borrowed his ladder and climbed the wall of our house to break in for the 2nd time this year!
What else... oh, on the bus back from goiania I started talking to the lady in the seat next to me, turned out she wasn't interested. But while I was talking to her I noticed the people around us were listening, so I distributed pamphlets for all of them to read during our 6 hour bus ride. I thought it was cool that even though my neighbor wasn't interested, my talking to her got my message out to more people.

One Wild Week!
So as stated in the subject, this week was pretty wild.
After spending a week in Goiânia I was desperate to get back to my area! At transfer meeting I met up with elder Lee, my new companion (for 4 weeks). President told me before hand what will happen with me (which was really strange because that never happens). Elder Lee and I will both be district leaders for 4 weeks until an Elder from Argentina gets here, then I'll Be off to RIO VERDE!!!! (green river haha) to be Zone leader with Elder de Jesus.
You can imagine that I'm super pumped to be Elder Jesus's companion!
(knock the door, who's there? "elder De Jesus!!!")
Anyway I got back here and luckily everything worked out for Wilson's baptism. Good thing too, because I had called pretty much every member of the ward to make it go smoothly!
We've got two more baptismal dates for this Saturday, Jhonny and Luciana. Luciana is investigating and was introduced to us by a member!!! It's one of the first times I've had someone to teach who already is looking to be baptized!!! They're awesome and are looking for a house to buy in the Salt Lake Valley... I though... wait... non members determined to move to salt lake?!?!? We haven't even taught about the gathering of israel.. It'll be great to keep them active!
We've got two more possibilities for February 15th that are friends of members too. Working with the members is soo much better than doing it myself. It's like working with a mule and plow instead of working with a hoe. It's a bit tough to get the mule going, but it's a lot better than doing it by hand.
The members here are fantastic! There are always those certain families I can always count on, and I'm going to miss them a lot.
We had a few miracles in the district, two baptisms that weren't marked until friday and saturday, were baptized saturday and sunday!!! The new elders that were transfered into our district are doing fantastic.
The baptism on saturday I walked a few miles to another part of the city to do the interview. It was a great experience. Later that night I got a call from the Luizote Elders who were trying to fill the font (which doesn't need a plug because of the automatic pump) but the pump was broken so the water was draining when they tried to fill it. We went to help them and one hour later we managed to plug it up with a rubber glove, garbage bag and a metal plate we found in the closet (see picture).
The baptism on sunday the other Elder's had lost cell signal, so I didn't have the address to the kid's house. I had been trying to call them for hours and I was starting to get pretty worried about them and the person that would be baptized. I called a member, who talked to the stake president, who gave me the bishop's number, who gave me the address. An hour and a half bus ride later, I was in front of his house. Elder Lee did the interview and he was baptized sunday morning!!! It was an act of faith because I didn't even know for sure if the dad was waiting for us there or not, and it all worked out.
Saturday morning we had a service project with the ward, taking a bunch of clay shingles from out back in her house. It was awesome, everyone bore there testimony on sunday about it.
Looks like Hawaii was pretty awesome! Thanks for all the emails (mom dad, grandma and grandpa!) haha. the pics of the wales were awesome! If I lived on that island I would dress like a leper and walk around with bells on.

Crazy Transfer!
Alrighty. So a few weird things happened with this transfer. Looks like there will be a visa waiter getting here a bit late, so Elder Ashby and I were called to goiania a bit early because of the Elders going home and to make sure that everybody has a companion for now.
I was a bit annoyed that we had to leave our area, but looks like wilson was baptized without a problem. A Vida Loka! Do Missionario
Hey family!
So this week was a bit crazy, we traveled to Goiânia thursday and got back Friday... That ate up a bit of our time. Saturday and Sunday we were very blessed for our dilligence.
We've been trying to work more with the members here for about a month. I think it's like trying to get a team of oxen going, it's a real pain to get them started, but once we get them going the work is lot easier than pushing and pulling by yourself.
We finally started to have some results! Last sunday a sister from the other ward introduced two of her friends that were visiting, jhonny and Luciana! Luciana is awesome, and she drags Jhonny along, when we finish the lesson she says "when are you guys going to come back?", We invited her to a family night and jhonny said "we might have another commitment" Luciana responded "We'll cancel it then!"
All I can think is wow, this is a lot better than fighting all week to get people to come to church and then having about half of them show up! We now have 5 investigators, 3 with a baptismal date. 4 of them were Referals from the members, and 1 was a referal from Jaine, (wilson, who will be baptized this saturday!!!)
Sometimes we've really got to work hard to get the team moving but it is definitely a lot better than working alone. One family night I had been hounding this family to invite their neighbors to come all week, to which they agreed, but they hadn't invited them. So we went over to the houses on both sides of theirs and invited the neighbors over for them. It was an awesome family night!
Wow time sure flies, we'll have transfers here next week and I'm hoping to stay, I love this ward. But it's a long shot since I've been here 7 1/2 months.
I gave a talk in sacrament meeting. I talked about how we have TONS of work to do here (we want a full quorum, seminary, caravan to the temple, activities, mutual, etc) and how we want all these things but we have to have a good attitude and go about our work cheerfully. Like nefi, I will go and do.

Retention
Well let's see what I did this week.
I've been running to different parts of the city to go on exchanges with all the elders in the district. I'm trying a lot harder to work with the members. I'm one of those missionaries that thought for the longest time working with the members is more work than working by yourself! I think I got used to that in the branch in Barra. But I'm learning slowly and steadily.
Experience: We saw I guy I taught one time REALLY drunk in the supermarket. (ok this actually happens a lot since I have 7 months in this area and know pretty much which drunks go to which bars)
But I really liked this guy, so we resolved to help him get home. How hard could it be? he only lived a block away...
15 minutes later we had only been able to get him outside the market and into the street... I was seriously thinking "He's pretty heavy but Elder Ashby and i can carry him, would it make too much of a seen?" Luckily we were able to coax him to his house in 20 minutes, using many tricks like: "hurry there's someone waiting behind you" "look it's going to start to rain in a bit" "come a little bit forward, the ground is more even here" Elder Ashby tried singing, I started counting the steps he made and that seemed to help.
When he got home he was wishing he was still back in the super market. His wife gave him a look that would kill a mile away.
I felt really sad but was happy we got him home, since we had taught that family a few times and had really made some progress with their son before leaving them.

This week sacrament meeting was one of the most spiritual fast and testimony meetings that I have ever witnessed. It was fantastic and completely free of apostasy! haha.
It was a little tough to work that week with the holidays, but now we're catching a lot of people home that normally aren't at home, so that's great. I got wise on new year's eve, bought ear plugs... good thing two, our house was shaking from the neighbors music. I only woke up at midnight when is sounded like WW3 was happening outside our window. Sounded like explosions and cars wrecking... The next morning there was nobody, NOBODY in the streets until like 2pm.
We've got our convert (jaine)'s boyfriend on date to be baptized on the 18th! WOOOOOO!!! Wilson is his name.
